How can I fix the issue when the automatic case opener’s suction cups fail to grip the boxes?
Automatic case erectors offer significant convenience to businesses, greatly enhancing the level of automation in downstream packaging operations and reducing labor requirements. However, some users may encounter issues during operation where the suction cups on the case erector fail to grip or stably hold cardboard cases. Common causes of this problem include the following:
Reason 1: Insufficient or unstable air supply
SpeedPack’s case erector is a fully automatic machine with a speed range of 12–40 cases per minute. At such high speeds, stable operation requires several conditions to be met—particularly a reliable and adequate air supply. If the compressed air source fails to meet the machine’s specifications, it can result in weak or inconsistent suction, causing the machine to either fail to pick up boxes or handle them unstably.
Reason 2: Suction cup issues
Problems with suction cups are another frequent cause. These may include worn or damaged cups, incorrect cup size, or incompatible cup type. To troubleshoot, try replacing the suction cups and test whether the issue is resolved.
Reason 3: Cardboard case surface condition
If the surface of the cardboard case is uneven, warped, or dusty, an air gap can form between the suction cup and the box during pickup. This leakage reduces vacuum pressure and results in insufficient holding force—causing the case erector to drop or mis-handle the box.
Reason 4: Vacuum generator malfunction
A leaking or underperforming vacuum generator can also lead to inadequate suction, preventing the machine from reliably picking up cases.
If you experience issues with your case erector failing to pick up boxes, please refer to the above points for self-diagnosis and troubleshooting. If the problem persists, contact SpeedPack—your case erector manufacturer—for professional support.
