The pet food market is divided into four main food categories:
Dry food (coarse ground)
Wet food (meat sauce, minced and diced, chunky)
Treats and snacks (biscuits, soft chews, meat jerky, chews and bones)
Nutritional supplements (vitamins and minerals, dietaries, enzymes, probiotics)

Wet dog food is more expensive and complex than dry dog food. Wet food is usually more nutritious. Wet pet food contains moisture, so sealing and sterilization technologies are particularly important in the packaging process. Metal cans are the best packaging material for wet food packaging, storage, and transportation. Canned pet food packaging requires sterilization to inhibit microbial growth in containers. Each food category has a premium segment that offers grain-free, non-GMO, organic, and essential nutrients, usually packed in smaller bags to provide freshness. Of course, larger bulk bags and canned foods (for dogs and cats) remain popular forms.
