ABB has expanded its portfolio of high-speed industrial robots through the acquisition of Codian Robotics B.V. of the Netherlands, a company specializing in high-precision pick-and-place applications. This strategic move strengthens ABB’s presence in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and logistics sectors.

The acquisition also underscores ABB’s commitment to innovative technologies that empower customers to fully harness the potential of automation and enhance operational flexibility in rapidly evolving business environments.
Codian Robotics’ product line includes hygienic-design robotic systems ideally suited for industries with stringent sanitation requirements—such as food and beverage and pharmaceuticals—where interest in automation has surged following recent global health emergencies.
“There is strong demand for pick-and-place robots that guarantee high hygiene standards—a trend significantly accelerated by the COVID-1 9 pandemic,” said Sami Atiya, President of ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation. “Our customers in food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and logistics are particularly keen on automation solutions that keep supply chains running while safeguarding worker well-being.”
Going forward, ABB will be able to offer customers a broader range of delta robots and integrated solutions from a single source, further advancing its machine-centric robotics strategy—which unifies machine automation and robot control onto a unified platform.
