The "China Robot Industry Development Report (2021)" released during the 2021 World Robot Conference shows that China's robot market has entered a stable growth period. Even though affected by the pandemic, China's robot market size experienced slight decline, it also provided broader application space for robots. In 2021, China's robot market size is expected to reach 83.9 billion yuan.
This report was published by China Electronics Society. The report points out that robots are hailed as "the pearl at the top of the manufacturing crown," and their research and development, manufacturing, and application are important indicators measuring a country's scientific and technological innovation and high-end manufacturing level. The national 14th Five-Year Plan clearly states that we should promote the optimization and upgrading of manufacturing, deeply implement intelligent manufacturing and green manufacturing projects, cultivate advanced manufacturing clusters, and promote innovative development of high-end manufacturing industries including robots.
"From the vast universe to the depths of the ocean, from factory workshops to rural fields, from national heavy equipment to people's livelihood, we are entering a colorful new world of harmonious coexistence with robots." Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said this at the 2021 World Robot Conference in Beijing.
Global robot market grows steadily, China's robot market enters stable growth period
The report shows that in 2021, the global robot market size maintained stable growth, expected to reach $ 33.58 billion (approximately 216.345 billion RMB), with an average annual growth rate of approximately 11.5% from 2016-2021.
Among them, industrial robots account for $ 14.49 billion, service robots $ 12.52 billion, and special robots $ 6.57 billion. As the pandemic is controlled globally, the robot market will gradually recover, and it is expected that by 2023, the global robot market size will exceed $ 47.7 billion.
According to the report, in 2021, China's robot market size is expected to reach 83.9 billion yuan, with an average growth rate of 18.3% from 2016-2023, far exceeding the global average.
In terms of industrial robots, in 2021, China's industrial robot market size is expected to be 44.57 billion yuan. Currently, China's industrial robot market demand continues to increase. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in August, industrial robot production reached 32,828 units, increasing by 57.4% year-on-year, entering a high-speed development stage. It is expected that by 2023, the domestic market size will further expand and exceed 58.9 billion yuan.
In terms of service robots, in 2021, China's service robot market size is expected to reach 30.26 billion yuan. In the future, as demand expands in medical care, education, public services and other fields, China's service robots will achieve market growth rates higher than the global level. By 2023, China's service robot market size is expected to exceed 60 billion yuan.
In terms of special robots, in 2021, China's special robot market size is expected to reach 9.07 billion yuan. Due to China's vast territory, diverse climate, and complex geological conditions, there is a prominent demand for special robots in responding to earthquakes, floods, extreme weather, mine accidents, fires, security and other public safety events. Future market growth will be higher than the global level, and by 2023, China's special robot market size is expected to exceed 18 billion yuan.
Core robot components accelerating localization
In recent years, with strong national support, the basic capabilities of the robot industry have significantly improved. Significant breakthroughs have been made in key components such as precision reducers and high-performance servo drives. Some innovative achievements, such as collaborative robots in terms of load capacity, accuracy, and ease of use, have reached international advanced levels.
The report points out that China's independent research and development of industrial robots has accelerated, application areas have expanded to more industries, and the pace of autonomous development of core industrial robot components has clearly accelerated, gradually forming a self-controlled industrial chain ecosystem.
Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xin Guobin stated that a large number of specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative "little giant" enterprises have formed in the fields of robot integration, components, and system integration. Companies such as Efort and Tianshihang have successively listed on the STAR Market. Resources and innovation factors are accelerating toward regions with good robot industry foundations and great development potential. Robot industry clusters in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta region, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and other advantageous regions are accelerating development and growth.
To accelerate the high-quality development of the robot industry, new industrial support policies are also being developed. Xin Guobin revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is currently leading the formulation of the 14th Five-Year Plan for robot industry development.
One of the main aspects is to consolidate the foundation of industrial development. Efforts will be made to strengthen the development foundation in key core components such as reducers, control systems, and servo motors, and to promote joint research and development by industry, academia, and research institutions to improve the functionality, performance, and reliability of robot key components.
China is the world's largest robot market, which will be China's greatest confidence in developing the robot industry. With policy support, capital promotion, and technological breakthroughs, the robot industry is now experiencing unprecedented development opportunities.
The report also recommends actively promoting the application demonstration of robots in sub-industries, accelerating the construction of high-quality application scenarios for intelligent robots; improving the public service level of robots, focusing on layout of robot standards and testing certification system construction; effectively broadening financing channels for robot enterprises, and accelerating the construction of multi-level robot industry talent echelons; actively building an open resource sharing platform for the robot industry, and promoting high-quality deep international cooperation.
